Last one year district administration has taken several steps to promote Nizamabad as a “Great Get away destination”
The very successful conduct of Indur Utsav,2001, which has inspired many similar festivals in other districts in the state as well as in Nanded district of Maharashtra was the beginning efforts to open up Nizamabad and develop it as a tourist destination. The opening of the Heritage Museum, development of Asok Sagar and Mallaram eco tourism project, identification of 36 locations as local tourism spots, conduct of Flower show (Vasantotsav), 8 day long Surabhi festival (Natakotsav), weekly cultural programs, local conducted tours etc have given a real boost to tourism in the district. To consolidate the gains made and to further the development of Tourism, Indur Utsav,2002 is planned to be held from December 21st to 24th, 2002 at Nizamabad.
Indur Utsav,2002 would be inaugurated on 21st December by Hon’ble Minister for Tourism, Government of AP and the closing ceremony would be presided over by Sri N.Chandra Babu Naidu, Hon’ble Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh on 24th December, 2002.
The main cultural programs would be held at Collectorate grounds where reputed artists of national and state level would perform. Artists would be sponsored by Department of Culture, Andhra Pradesh, South Zone Culture Centre, Tanjavour, Department of Culture, Karnataka etc. A program of Gazals & Mushaira, Sham-E-Gazal would be organised in Collectorate ground.
An Exhibition of products prepared by women of DoWCRA groups from various districts, bamboo products prepared by tribal artisans of Badrachalam, handloom products, products of Commercial concerns, arts & handicrafts shops would be organized in Collectorate grounds with the help of Exhibition Society, Nizamabad. A food festival will also be held in the Collectorate grounds, where delicious Telangana, Andhra, Rajasthani, Gujarathiand Marwadi cuisines would be made available.
A flower show displaying exotic varieties of exquisite flowers would be organized at Tilak Garden from 24th December to 28th December, 2002. Flowers from other states and climatic regions also would be exhibited. Orchids, Anthuriums, cut flowers, dry flowers, vegetable carvings, forest medicinal plants etc would be on display. A Horticulture show and dog show also will also be held at Tilak Garden. New technologies in horticulture, modern implements and tools for horticulture, products to add value to Turmeric- a major produce in Nizamabad-, drip irrigation and sprinkler systems, new varieties of Horticulture plants etc would be displayed in the horticultural show.
“Bala Mela” will be organized at Bal Bhavan, wherein young artists from local schools and colleges would perform. Artists performing ‘Chindula Bhagawatam” a traditional cultural form of Nizamabad, resuscitated during the last Indur Utsav and other local artists will be given opportunity to perform.
“Yuva Mela” will be organized in Collectorate grounds during daytime, in which local youth groups would make cultural presentations.
Sports festival would be organized at Collectorate ground during daytime. Water sports and Adventure sports will be organized at Asok sagar and Quilla. Eco treks would be done in Mallaram forests.
As a part of the festival, beatification of Nizamabad town is being taken up. All major roads are being widened, spruced up, road dividers developed.
The Heritage Museum started during Indur Utsav 2001 is being expanded.
The new octagonal shaped-glass paneled “Asok Sagar Restaurant” would be opened in Asok Sagar. A 14 feet statue of Goddess Saraswathi would be installed in the middle of the lake. Beautiful illumination of rocks and trees would be completed. The newly constructed children’s park would be opened. Exquisite landscaping and plantation of colorful plants have been completed.
Indur Utsav 2002 is expected to give a further fillip to tourism in the district.
