On 12 June 2017, as Principal Secretary BCW dept, Telangana, started 119 ( 56 for Boys and 63 for girls) English Medium BC Welfare Residential schools @ 1 per assembly constituency admitting 30,000 students to classes 5,6,7. It was an Herculean task, (but well accomplished) to find required infrastructure and manpower to start them going in just 124 days. By 12-6-2017, on the first day of the new academic year, 124 days later (The order sanctioning them was issued on 7-2-2017), had to get all infrastructure organized: locate and take over on rent buildings big enough to accommodate the classes for academics and rooms for stay of 28560 students; at the place for the stay of students, we needed toilets, beds, cooking materials, kitchen utensils, plates, etc, for the academic part of the school needed desks and benches, black boards, lab materials, text books, note books, office furniture etc; in addition to getting manpower resources such as (recruitment of) Principals, teachers for school, wardens, cooks, maintenance persons for hostels and to conduct entrance tests for 1.5 lakhs appearing for admission.… When the schools started functioning on 12 June, 2017, these schools rivalled private and corporate schools, as seen from the Independent press reports. It was nice of Telangana Government to give Asok Kumar the *First Telangana Excellence Award * selected by a search committee of ex-Chief Secretaries in 2018
Never before in the history of the country were so many Residential Schools started on a single day! (and that too in such short time)
