As Director, Ministry of Power (2010-11), Asok Kumar was (a) the Chairman of the Indian Smart Grid Forum and (b) member of the Indian Smart Grid Task Force under the chairmanship of Mr Sam Pitroda, Advisor to Prime Minister. He handled the implementation of the Revised Accelerated Power Distribution Reforms Program (R-APDRP) and the Rajiv Gandhi Gramin Vidyutikaran Yojana (RGGVY). The first Data Center under the R-APDRP became operational and the first 82 cities commissioned during his tenure.
